HOTEL ANTEQUERA: HOST OF THE SPANISH UNIVERSITY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD TIME
Hotel Antequera will host the Spanish University Golf Championship 2013 from 18 to 21 March for the third time in the history of Antequera.
The championship, which was presented today at the Vice-Chancellor's Office at the University of Malaga (UMA), has enjoyed the presence of Maribel Calero (Vice-Chancellor for Extension at UMA), Pedor Montiel (Director of Sports at UMA), Ana María López (Vice-Chancellor of Social Services at the University of Seville), Jorge Thiriet (Assistant Manager of Sports Activities at the University of Seville), Manuel Barón (Mayor of Antequera), Juan José Gómez-Raggio (General Secretary of the Real Federación Andaluza de Golf) and Eduardo Ferr (General Manager of Antequera Golf).
During this presentation, the high level of competition at this year's edition was noted, given that the Real Federación Española de Golf has lowered the handicap by 4 points. In total, there will be 48 male participants and 23 female participants. Six of the eleven groups that have registered in the team category pertain to Andalusian universities, including UMA.
Antequera is optimistic that this championship will match previous years, or the World University Golf Championship of 2010 which, in the words of the FISU, was one of the most well organised events. In July 2014, the European University Indoor Football Championships will also take place while in 2015 Antequera will be the host of some winter university events, as the mayor of Antequera noted during his speech.
The Spanish University Paddel Tennis Championship was also presented at the event. It will be hosted on the same dates at the University of Seville within the collaboration agreement between Malaga and Seville thanks to the Campus for Excellence (Andalusia Tech). This project will also enable Antequera locals to enjoy the final stage of the Andalusian University Indoor Football Championships next Monday and Tuesday.
