MÁLAGA CF: CHAMPIONS OF THE ANTEQUERA INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S FOOTBALL CUP, BEATING JAPANESE TEAMS
This evening, Málaga C.F. was declared the winner of the First Antequera International Children's Football Cup, which was hosted at Antequera and Nuevo Maulí's football facilities and which was attended by various teams from around the province and two Japanese outfits.
Málaga C.F. attended the tournament with their stars and they were ranked as favourites to win. They answered the demands of the tournament to emerge victorious. This cup was attended by two Japanese teams from Tokyo, and they brought an international flavour for spectators in the stands as they are quality teams with excellent fitness levels.
The Japanese teams are affiliates of one of the Far East's most successful clubs: Tokyo Verdi. These teams are staying at Hotel Antequera until 30 March, making the most of this complex's excellent links to go on a tour of Andalusia's main cities.
The team managed by Jesús Javier Morán also took home all of the championship's awards: top scorer, goalkeeper who conceded the least goals, and best player, which went to Sergio Díaz, León Zuazua and Lucas Ligio respectively. This first edition of the tournament was also contested by Antequera C.F., C.D. Media Lauxa de Loja and Escuela Municipal de Fútbol de Mijas.
The final prize giving, which was hosted at Hotel Antequera, was attended by the Counselor for Sports from the Local Government of Antequera, Alberto Vallespín, the tournament's organiser, Hiroyuki Hirahashi, and the managing director of Hotel Antequera, Ramón Jiménez.
The tournament consisted of an initial group stage with two groups of three teams. The teams that finished second in their groups qualified for the third place play-off, while those that finished first qualified for the final. The third place play-off was contested by Antequera C.F. and Wings, with the team from Antequera winning on penalties. The final was played out between Málaga C.F. and C.D. Medina Lauxa, with the Costa del Sol team emerging victorious with a 2-0 victory.
The Local Government of Antequera, the Federación Malagueña de Fútbol and the Comité Técnico Andaluz de Árbitros collaborated on the organisation of this hugely successful tournament.
