OVER 200 PEOPLE AT A UNIQUE MEETING BETWEEN ANTEQUERA COMPANIES AND NGOS
The celebration of the First Company/NGO Solidarity Meeting hosted at Hotel Antequera and promoted by the Local Government of Antequera and the Plataforma del Voluntariado de Antequera (Antequera Volunteering Platform) was a success with more than 200 participants. This is a unique event held for the first time in Spain.
The event, which was chaired by the Mayor of Antequera, Manual Barón, was attended by numerous authorities, including the Counselor for Citizen Participation, María Dolores Gómez, the representative of the Plataforma del Voluntariado, Fernando del Pino, and representatives from the business sector, including Esther Granados, President of the Asociación del Comercio e Industria de Antequera (Antequera Business and Industry Association), Antonio Carmona, President of the Comunidad de Propietarios del Polígono Industrial de Antequera (Owners Community at Antequera Industrial Park), Jorge Alegre, Manager of the Centro de Iniciativas Turísticas de Antequera (Centre for Tourist Initiatives in Antequera), Lola Granados, from the Asociación de Empresarias de la Comarca de Antequera (Antequera Business Association), and Ramón Jiménez, the managing director of Hotel Antequera.
More than fifteen NGOs, representing all of the solidarity organisations in Antequera, attended alongside city businesses at a unique meeting that sought mutual understanding of the social reality of both groups and the development and raising awareness of this in order to find common ground that would be beneficial to the city's companies and social groups alike.
Participating social organisations included AEFAC, ADIPA, Plataforma para la Promoción del Voluntariado, AFEDAC, the Red Cross, Fundación Prolibertas, PROYDE, the Asociación de Mujeres Mastectomizadas de Antequera (Association for Antequera Women who have Undergone Masectomies), Comedor Social Emaús, Manos Unidas, CALA, Málaga Acoge, Antequera por Mali, Crearte, Arca del Torcal, Refugio del Burrito and Proyecto Hombre-Resurgir, in addition to companies such as the Centro de Iniciativas Turísticas, ACIA, Hojiblanca and AEC.
The first meeting began with a welcome talk from the authorities who then presented José Joya, the founder of the Confederación de Empresarios de Málaga and a businessman who offered his point of view regarding corporate social responsibility and encouraged all business people to practise this for the social good and the good of their companies.
Later, things moved to the Salón Andalucía at Hotel Antequera, where the presentation of the city's different NGOs who wished to show their development potential took place.
To finish off the event, a solidarity dinner took place, the benefits of which will be donated to the Antequera Solidaria for its food bank.
